Our desire to build a long stretch of protected properties from Jackson School House Road to Eagle Peak Road became more of a reality when we acquired the property formerly owned by Brown University and then transferred to the land trust by National Grid. The property is contiguous to other properties that are owned and managed by the Burrillville Land Trust.
The 54 acres was conveyed to the Burrillville Land Trust for permanent conservation and protection in compliance with the Clean Water Act: Section 404 of the Act in a requirement associated with construction of new electric transmission facilities in North Smithfield and Burrillville, Rhode Island. The Burrillville Land Trust is an incorporated conservation organization and an all volunteer, private land trust in Rhode Island. The purpose of the Burrillville Land Trust is to maintain the Town's rural character by preserving open space and protecting the beauty and viability of farmlands, woodlands, meadows, ponds and rivers. The parcel has no road frontage and is contiguous with other land owned and managed by the Burrillville Land Trust on Jackson Schoolhouse Road in Burrillville, RI.
